There are so many beautiful and spectacular lakes in Tibet. The two most prominent lakes are Yamdrok Lake, the wish fulfilling lake, and Lake Namtso, the lake of the oracle. Both of these lakes are highly sacred and auspicious sites to Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims.

Lake Namtso is the highest salt water lake in the world. Many pilgrims to this holy lake experience life altering events. This was true for at least one in our group after receiving a blessing from the resident monk, the care taker for the small shrine built around a cave up the hill from the lake. After receiving the blessing, he experienced visions of gold emanating from his heart out into the universe, along with feelings of deep love and compassion for all beings everywhere. Life altering indeed.

Lyrics

The water is wide

I cannot cross over

And neither have I

Wings to fly

Build me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row

My love and I

I leaned my back

Up against an oak

I thought it was

A trusty tree

But first it swayed

And then it broke

And so my false love

Did unto me

A ship there is

And she sails the seas

She’s laden deep

As deep can be

But not so deep

As the love I’m in

I know not if

I sink or swim

Oh love is handsome

And love is kind

And love’s a jewel

When first it is new

But love grows old

And waxes cold

And fades away

Like morning dew

The water is wide

I cannot cross over

And neither have I

Wings to fly

Build me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row

My love and I
